After a quick breakfast, we headed toward Idaho, hitting the road by 7 a.m., losing an hour as we left the Pacific Time Zone. We stopped only to eat a quick lunch and get gas, arriving at our start point around 2 p.m. Mountain Time.
We followed our usual pattern, although Joe did the entire 5 miles first, running 4 and walking the last mile. I then walked. Not a lot to report….a due east course in a straight line for 5 miles. Pretty much the same kind of scenery as at the end of last year’s walk, of course – grasslands and ranches along the base of the Soldier Mountains to the north. At 2 miles, I saw a black Mercedes by the side of the road, hood up, driver nowhere in sight. Five minutes later, a passing vehicle stopped, the guy rolled down the window and said, “Broke down?” I laughed and said, “No, but I saw it, too. Thanks for asking!” I passed through Fairfield at 3 miles (Joe checked us into an inexpensive RV campground there with okay showers and full hookups). Joe cooked bacon-avocado-cheese sandwiches for dinner. We watched DVDs of his Alaska cruise from May of this year.
