Day 15:  Sevenmile Camp to Tombstone Prairie
Saturday, August 5, 2006

It gets warm in central Oregon in August, reaching the low 90s during the day being the norm.  However, the overnight lows can be downright chilly.  During our stay, they typically dipped to the low 40s or lower.  I had brought a blanket to supplement the sleeping bag, and from the first night felt good about that choice.

We left camp shortly after 8 a.m. and drove 35 miles west to where we had ended the walk three months earlier at Mile 0125.  We first parked Joe’s truck 9 miles east of here, and now we parked my car at our start point.

Start point:  44 23.113 N, 122 12.744 W
End point:  44 23.740 N, 122 08.466 W

The road climbed for the first half at a 6% grade.  By the time we reached Tombstone Pass, we had gained over 1200 feet in elevation.  We had begun to feel it some in the muscles, but it wasn’t bad.  Once over the top, we had a more gradual downhill for the rest of the walk.  The highway followed Hackleman Creek, which was hidden down in the forest to our right.

We reached the parked truck and then walked another 0.3 mile to total 8.9 miles for the day.

Walk rating:  8.5

Money found:  Day:  $.01 Trip:  $0.01 Project:  $4.33

Distance:  Day:  8.9 miles  Trip:  8.9 miles  Project:  133.8 miles

Elapsed time:  Day: 3:31  Trip:  3:31  Project:  52:34

Significance:  Began second trip.

We paid $2 each at Black Butte Resort, a small, private trailer/RV park in Camp Sherman, to take turns using a single shower.  Joe cooked the last of the hamburger patties for dinner.  In cribbage I won 4 of 5 games to take the lead at 5-3.
