This was a forgettable walk, but not because it was a bad or uninteresting day. Actually it was neither; it was a beautiful walk through the Willamette National Forest beside the South Santiam River. It was all uphill, but not steep enough to be at all unpleasant. Except for the light traffic, it was all about nature at its best. But there wasn’t any one thing to stick in your mind; no towns, no quirky local personalities, no funky road signs, no ramshackle abodes -- just birdsong and running water and the wind in the trees.
It was great.
We drove back 57 miles to Albany, stopping for lunch at Safeway in Sweet Home. After showers we drove to Corvallis and watched a baseball game between the OSU Beavers and the Washington Huskies. This game featured two future major league pitchers: Tim Lincecum (UW) and Dallas Buck (OSU). The Huskies won the game 6-4.
